| | I wasn't able to run so I biked 18 miles today because of an injury. Converting biking miles to running miles makes it 6 miles if I had been able to run. Hopefully this injury heals because I sure hate sitting on a bike to try and keep my conditioning up.
|
| | Finally felt good enough to run the tryout run today with the team. No pain for the first time in a while. Did the six mile course in 37:23 which isn't bad considering I had a limit on how fast I could go. Did a two mile cool down afterwards and hope this is the start of more to come.

| | Did hill repeats on state hill with 60 second intervals. Felt fine to start but then started to feel my hip hurting again so tried taking it easy, but that didn't help so I had to completely stop. At least I was running and not on a bike but this injury is really frustrating with only a week to go before the Alumni meet.

| | Ran up Left Hand Fork today. It felt good to take the run easy. My hip started to ache as we were coming back with all of the down hill. However the hip didn't hurt as it usually does. So some improvement but still not 100% yet.

| | Ran with Spencer, Joe, and Brian doing 2 Zollinger loops. Felt good so I pushed it up the hills that we had. Had to take it easy on the down hill because of my hip. Had a good time with everyone as well as a good run. Hip was still sore after the run but feeling better than the day before.

| | We ran reverse ladders on the track today. 4 laps 5:30 pace, 3 laps 5:20 pace, 2 laps 5:10 pace, 1 lap 5:00, 200 meters all out. I did great on set 4 and 3. Struggled with set 2 but made up for it by running 4:30 instead of 5:00. Tried to keep up with Spence on the final 200 sprint but he got me by a couple feet. Felt good to be back sprinting. Hip still is sore but improving. Hope to do good at the Alumni meet.
Did 4 easy miles in the 90 degree heat later today.

Alumni Meet (3.05 Miles) 00:18:15, Place overall: 2, Place in age division: 2 | | Ran the Alumni Meet today. It was very hot and humid. I did ok tried sticking with Joe and Spencer the first half of the race and then passed Joe on the dirt trail. Lightheaded with about a mile to go. Finished second in 18:15. Beat last years time by 20 seconds so some improvement and some hope after no pain in the hip for the first time in a while. Shout out to Spencer for killing it today and to Branson for pulling off a Spencer with zero training.

| | Today was Blacksmith Fork Hill repeats. Had to do 8 of them. Was very sore from yesterdays race. Tried to stay the same finish time on all of the repeats. Could feel my hip acting up again so still not quite there yet in the healing process. Shout out to Andrew for getting out of bed to come running finally.

| | Went up by beaver mountain and did the varsity relay. The girls and boys varsity all went up there and then we were partnered off. So one would be running a mile while the other is biking the mile and then switching all the way to the top. I go partnered up with Allie so we were the first group to finish at the stopping spot. Hard to know the milage because my watch was being funny so I'm just going to say 10 miles about.
|
|
| | Today was laps at the rodeo grounds in spikes. We found a partner and then would switch every lap. We had to do 5 long and 5 short laps. While your partner is running you have to be doing a plank until they finish. My partner was Spencer. We were racing Joe and Branson for the first 5 laps until they fell behind. My final four laps there was someone trying to race me so that really pushed me. We ended up finishing first mostly due to Spencer. Afterwards ran 4 easy hill miles in Providence.

| | Ran the Logan River Trial today. Was an easy pace with Highland coming up on Thursday. We were all really tired from yesterdays workout. Later I went motorcycling with my family up by Tony Grove. All was going well until I hit some really loose gravel while taking a sharp turn. My bike crashed right onto my left side. It left a couple of scratches and a giant bruise right on the hip that has bugged me for the last month. And then because of my great luck my bike suddenly stopped working about halfway up the trial. It took me an hour to push my 300 pound bike 3 miles back to the truck. There was very little downhill and a lot of uphill on the way back. So I got an extra workout in today. Just hope the bruise goes away before Highland on Thursday.
|
|
| | My leg was still bruised from yesterday so instead of doing Upper Turkey I did laps on the track to try to loosen up my leg for tomorrow. My hip kept getting better the more laps I did so I figured I would be fine doing the Tutu Relay with the rest of the team. You're supposed to have 2 boys and 2 girls run 400m while handing off a tutu. I teamed up with Easton and Branson because there were not enough girls so 3 boys kind of makes that fair. I started off and was able to get second behind Eric for the first lap. Branson went next and gained alot of ground and put us pretty far in front. Easton went and maintained the lead. Then I went again and managed to hold off Spencer and the "dream team" for first place. But we got DQ anyway but thats alright because we had fun any way.

Highland Invitational (2.9 Miles) 00:16:48, Place overall: 80, Place in age division: 80 | | Raced Highland today. I knew I needed to get out fast but I went out too fast. My first 400 meters was at a 4:00 pace. I had a hard time recovering from the start. Eric kept catching up to me which pushed me. I finished two spots in front of Eric. It was a rough race for all of us so hopefully this is just a first race thing and we can get over it for our first home meet.

| | Nice and easy run today. Coach wants us to recover and get some rest for our first home meet on Wednesday. All of this smoke in the valley is hard on my allergies. Good luck to Joe, Eric and Brian tomorrow at the Top of Utah Half Marathon. Wish I could do it but I believe I aggravated my hip injury again so I don't want another injury.

Mountain Crest Course (3.05 Miles) 00:17:36, Place overall: 3 | | Race at MC with Roy and Northridge. Started out a little slower than usual to experiment with my pace. Couldn't help but laugh at the other schools as they tried to keep up with Spencer as he took off. I started picking it up on the first cemetery hill and dropped the Roy runner next to me. Felt great till I hit the road after the dirt trail. Still managed to push it up the next hill and finished strong for a PR of 17:36 on our course.

American Fork Grass Relays (2 Miles) 00:11:27 | | Ran AF Relays today and had the worst race of my life. Our team got off to a good start with Spencer at about 13th place. Next Joe moved up to about 11th. Branson held the spot not losing or gaining ground. Eric moved us up to 10th. I took the handoff and felt fine for the first lap. Got passed by a Weber guy but didn't feel too bad after seeing he finished with the second fastest time at the relay. First lap was a 5:24 which was a little slower than I wanted. Then I just hit a wall. I tried to do every thing that I could to go faster but my body was just already worn out. I managed to stay with Bingham and Spanish Fork heading around the baseball diamond. I gave it all I had going across the hay bails. I passed the Spanish Fork runner going around the track and caught the Bingham runner on the track. I beat him by maybe a step. I finished strong but still had a really crappy race. I just didn't have it today. However on the bright side the team finished 9th. The highest placing ever for Mountain Crest and was just 3 seconds off the Mountain Crest record at the AF Relays. Congratulations to the rest of the team.

Top Of Utah Invite (2.9 Miles) 00:16:23, Place overall: 3, Place in age division: 2 | | TOU Invite today. That course has hills like none I have seen before. We took off and ran as a pack for the first mile. Then the pace started to slow down so I thought I'd pick it up again. I took off and no one tried to stay with me. I went up the monster hill and there was no one in sight behind me. Then a Preston and Logan runners came up behind me. I was kind of thrown off because I have never led a Varsity race before. The other two kids beat me by about 3 seconds. I psyched myself out and thats why I fell to 3rd Place. But the team till won.

XC State 5A (3.02 Miles) 00:16:28, Place overall: 50 | | State was ok for me. Just like at Region the start was very fast. Everyone sprinted off the line. I got in good position and held it going around the lake. When we hit the hairpin turn it threw me off a little mentally because I have never raced on the new state course before. Some AF kid thought I was in his way so he started hitting me in the kidney. I started sprinting when we hit the big grass field. I caught about 8 kids in the sprint. I could see Connor Compton just in front of me and I managed to pass him about five steps from the finish line. Not a bad way to end the year but I'm excited for whats coming up next.

Did good the first 3 miles which was all up hill. Then mile 4-5 I just hit a wall because I haven't ever raced a 10K before. Joe had been with me the first 3 miles and then dropped. The entire course was uphill untill you get to mile 5. I tried to push it but the hills had just worn me out and there was no one near me. | | Went to Spencer's and ran with him around Nibley in the chilly 10 degree weather. We stopped at Joe's and he finished the run with us. Was easy run just putting on some miles to get ready for track.

| | Wanted to switch it up a little bit so I decided odd miles 5:30 while even miles 6:30. I was able to do it but took more effort than it should have. Maybe it was all the ice on the roads.

| | Started out the day by going XC skiing for the first time up Green Canyon about 2 miles up. Came home and then went out again with Joe up Providence Canyon. We went to the bridge which I think is 3 miles up. After we got back we went and ran 4 miles around Joe's neighborhood. So my body is kind of sore and will probably be a lot worse tomorrow. So I went with Joe and Spencer to Crystal Hot Springs to relax.
